What is on Dharisanam, and the ways to find a temple, a saint or a hymn.

What Dharisanam is

The 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams are the Shiva temples named in the Thevaram, the hymns of the three saints Sambandar, Appar and Sundarar. V. Muthukumaraswamy has visited 181 of them since 2016 and written up each visit: the temple, its legends, the deities, the pathigam sung there, and how to get there, with his photographs.

Ways in

Reading a temple page

Each temple page opens with the temple’s name, today’s darshan hours, Directions and Share. Below are tabs:

  1. TempleThe temple write-up and photographs, as written, with chapters to jump between.
  2. HighlightsGreatness, significance and why devotees come here, each tied to a paragraph of the write-up.
  3. DeitiesThe Moolavar, the Ambal and the other shrines.
  4. Visit & mapHours, festivals, the address, nearby sthalams on a map and a day route.
  5. Temple planA schematic plan of the temple with numbered stops.
  6. PathigamThe hymn sung here, verse by verse in Tamil, with transliteration and meanings.
  7. PhotosEvery photograph from the visit.

English and தமிழ்

The EN/தமிழ் switch at the top shows a temple page in one language at a time. The hymn verse is always in Tamil. The Tamil write-up is an AI translation, marked as a draft, with the English one tap away in Reading options.

What Dharisanam adds

The write-ups and photographs are V. Muthukumaraswamy’s and are kept as written. Anything Dharisanam adds, such as notes between paragraphs, highlight cards, maps and meanings, is marked “Added by Dharisanam”, and “AI-assisted” when a model wrote it. The Dharisanam notes switch hides every note. Illustrations are AI generated and carry that mark.
